The Bethany Beyond Walls Ministry exists to fully realize Christ’s mission of love through expanded community engagement.
Our objective is to move beyond the traditional church walls and actively step into the world, fostering genuine relationships and exploring new expressions of ministry. This broad focus on being the church in the community is vitally important and works in tandem with our established assistance services and missions programs. Simply put: We are all about loving our neighbors.
Join us in our various endeavors where you might find us organizing a breakfast group at a nearby restaurant, or an evening book study at some non-church location where everyone feels welcome, including folks who may not be into attending a church, or helping with some community service project, or joining our hiking group, or participating in an arts group. We’re open to all. Participants certainly don’t have to be Christians, and we want all persons know we have a place for them with our groups. Love is all inclusive.
OBJECTIVE: Engage more members within Bethany to join with us in engaging with our neighbors outside Bethany, in the community to demonstrate the love of Jesus.
We seek to do this through:
PRAYER: Uplifting all of our efforts in prayer, seeking God’s guidance.
SERVICE: Promote and/or sponsor endeavors that connect with people beyond our church walls, sharing the love of Christ with people not impacted by our traditional missions projects (aka the rest of the community around our church). We see this as a vitally important means of service in ministry at Bethany UMC.
INFLUENCE: Collectively and individually encourage more thinking within our church about ways to get to know our neighbors and serve our community more.
SUPPORT: Partner with and support, or step alongside, existing ministry efforts at Bethany that are already striving to achieve the objectives above.
INSPIRE: Be advocates for broadened creative thinking about new ways we can be a church impacting our neighbors, moving beyond “we’ve never done it that way before” thinking.
INVITE: Always seek opportunities to invite others (members of our church and beyond) to join us in these efforts.
